Pastor Hal Johnson
His Earthly Reign…
Pastor Hal Johnson was born on May 9, 1951 to the late Levi and Leanna Johnson in Little Rock, Arkansas. He attended Horace Mann School in Little Rock where he resided until 1984. In 1972 he married Gloria Thompson and to this union two children were born: Brandie Johnson and Hal Johnson, Jr. In 1984 Hal Johnson married Lois Burnett and moved to Lee County. Ten years later, God blessed them with a son; Deshaun Johnson. Pastor Hal Johnson worked for the Lee County School District where he retired after his health failed. His fondest moments were preaching, fishing, and reading in his favorite chair.
His Church Life…
Pastor Hal Johnson was covered by the blood at Mt. Harmony M.B. Church in Little Rock under the leadership of Rev. Sherman Abraham. He later received Christ as his personal savior at Ebenezer COGIC in Little Rock under Bishop L.T. Walker. Receiving God had a profound affect on the heart and mind of Pastor Hal Johnson, inspiring him to accept his call to the ministry. His infinite passion for the ministry was evident as he followed Bishop L.T. Walker preaching and teaching the gospel. In 1984 Pastor Hal Johnson located to Lee County. While in Lee County they united with Greater Jerusalem M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. L.V. Smith. Pastor Hal Johnson had the heart of a shepherd as he was called to care and tend to the flocks of St. John M.B. Church, Shepherd Grove M.B. Church, Antioch M.B. Church and Kingdom Connections Church.
Pastor Hal Johnson attended Brewster Seminary School and was a faculty member of the School of the Scripture. He also was the President of the Greater PLM&D District for many years. Pastor Johnson’s gentle spirit, comforting visits and encouraging words are only a few ways that he showed his genuine love. He was a devoted and faithful pastor, a loving husband, father, brother and friend. Regardless of the situations or conditions, Pastor Hal Johnson remained eternally encouraged and always encouraged others along the way saying…”you don’t have any problems, all you need is faith”.
His Departure…
Pastor Hal Johnson stuck his sword in the sands of time and crossed over to study war no more. From Mortal and now to glory, Hal beheld the light and answered the call on September 19, 2008 at UAMS in Little Rock. He was preceded in death by his parents Levi and Leanna Johnson and brothers: Ricky and Nathaniel Johnson.
